The New School will reopen campus for regular hours on Tuesday, Feb. 24, according to a New School Alert emailed on Feb. 23 at 3:46 p.m.
“All regularly scheduled classes, events and activities will occur as planned,” the email said.
Campus was closed and all classes and activities were canceled on Monday, Feb. 23, amid the impending Winter Storm Hernando that blanketed the Northeast on Sunday night and into Monday morning. The National Weather Service issued the first blizzard warning for the city since 2017, according to New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
As of 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, 19.7 inches of snow were measured in Central Park by the National Weather Service. Some parts of New York City, including Grasmere in Staten Island, received nearly two feet of snow.
Despite the snow, New York City’s public schools will also reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 24. Nearly 130,000 people at the time of publication have already signed a petition calling for New York City public schools to instead switch to remote learning.
“You can still pelt me with snowballs when you see me,” New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said when he announced NYC’s public schools would reopen.
