The singer who rescheduled several dates earlier in the year returned to New York City at Sony Hall on June 15, performing albums ‘Rage for Order’ and ‘Empire’ in their entirety.

Geoff Tate, best known as the original vocalist of progressive metal band Queensrÿche, returned to New York City at Sony Hall on June 15. The singer, who released a string of hits with the group including “Jet City Woman” and “Silent Lucidity,” performed 1986’s “Rage for Order” and 1990’s “Empire” albums in their entirety.

Tate was originally scheduled to appear at the underground venue in January but was forced to reschedule several performances due to illness, according to the band’s social media pages. The group recently returned to the United States from an extensive European tour and performed several U.S. dates prior to their NYC return.

Tate and his solo band delivered a high energy performance to a crowd in good spirits. Despite being seated at tables, audience members often gathered towards the stage in search of a closer look.

As the album began, so did the show. Tate’s set kicked off with a performance of “Walk in the Shadows,” the opening track from “Rage for Order.” The band were faithful in their adaption of the album’s songs and order, executing the often-complex instrumental parts without taking many liberties. Tate’s voice was in pristine conditions, his signature high pitched delivery in top shape.

After a brief intermission, the band returned to the stage to perform “Empire.” The album was successful in fusing elements of progressive metal with popular music and is arguably the group’s most well-known record among contemporary listeners. The performance provided ample opportunities for the audience to join Tate in singing along to anthemic titles such as “Another Rainy Night” and “Anybody Listening?,” and abide they did.

At the album’s conclusion, Tate and his band returned to the stage to perform an encore consisting of “Last Time in Paris,” a song that appeared in the 1990 film “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane” starring Andrew Dice Clay, and “Take Hold of the Flame,” a cut from Queensrÿche’s first album, “The Warning,” before leaving the stage to thunderous applause.

Tate and his band are scheduled to hit the road again this fall in Europe. You can stay up to date on all things Geoff Tate, including new and tour dates, at his website.
