Fishy business …

Lola Braun is a third-year illustration major with a minor in comics. Her personal work frequently plays with abstract and nonfigurative elements, incorporating these into her traditional illustration roots through comics. The driving inspirations behind her work include surrealism and spiritual abstraction alongside various manga and comic artists. Her comics are often written as slice-of-life stories with moments of heightened surrealist visual language.

Lola’s piece, entitled “Fishy Business,” was inspired by the hidden backstories of bodega cats across New York.

The theme for October 2025 was ‘Haunted.’
