Columbus Day Parade

The New School doesn’t have Columbus Day off but that doesn’t mean you can’t swing by the Columbus Day Parade. Nearly 35,000 people are expected to march in the parade and nearly 100 groups; made up of bands, floats, and contingents will be marching. Every year almost one million spectators show up to enjoy themselves.The Parade marches up Fifth Avenue from 44th to 72nd Street with red carpet performances on Fifth Avenue between 67th and 69th Streets.

Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present
July 15, 2016 – January 8, 2017
If you’re interested in sports and want to spend an afternoon looking at some of our times best sports photography, you need to see this exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. The is the museum’s first exhibition to put sports photographers on show and it is unique to come by these kinds of photos in a museum setting. The 170 photographers represented in Who Shot Sports include Richard Avedon, Al Bello, David Burnett, Rich Clarkson, Georges Demeny, Andy Warhol, and countless others. Entrance to the museum is $10 with a student ID.

3rd Annual Wing Eating Contest

Are you a pro wing eater? Do you just love wings? Stitch Bar and Lounge is holding their 3rd Annual Wing Eating Contest. The 2nd Annual Dog Film Festival
Saturday, October 15th
The 2nd Annual Dog Film Festival is a philanthropic celebration of the many ways that we can appreciate the human-canine bond. This years festival will be made up of four themed programs that are 2 hours each, anchored by a longer film- preceded by a medley of animated, narrative and documentary shorts.
If you’re one of those people who cry during movies about animals, you don’t have to worry about these movies! All of these movies have happy doggy endings! Tickets can be found here.

Pumpkin Picking
October 15th & 16th @ 11:00am – 4:00pm
Visit Staten Island’s historic 1800s Decker Farm and bring home a festive pumpkin! Farm activities include farmhouse tours, hayrides, face painting, arts and crafts, and a corn stalk maze. The events go on rain or shine and cost $6 per person for both children and adults. Tickets can be purchased before or at the door.
Free shuttle bus service available from the Historic Richmond Town parking lot to the farm.

Oktoberfest Pig Roast & Keg Tap

Join Bierhaus restaurant and bar for a pig roast and keg tap in honor of Oktoberfest. There will be enough pig for everyone and there will be an Oktoberfest beer keg that will be tapped at 8:00 pm. After its tapped there will be free beer flowing for all in attendance!
