In this week’s Fashion on Fifth, I’m honoring one of my favorite prints: camouflage. Because let’s face it, good camo is hard to find. Composed of browns, greens, and grays, I consider it a neutral in my wardrobe. It’s a print with a long history. It’s trickled down from the military to be utilized by high fashion designers as a symbol of uniform, workwear, and even rebellion.

Fashion on Fifth: Ode to the tabi
This week’s Fashion on Fifth is dedicated to my favorite subversive footwear style, the tabi! A tabi is defined by a split toe that separates a person’s big toe from the rest, just like a flip flop does. The tabi’s split toe is thought to promote agility and mobility. (Yes, they are actually comfortable!) However, in 1988, Belgian designer Martin Margiela was inspired by the Japanese tabi style and debuted it on the runway for the first time. Shock, revolt, then obsession followed. The rest is history.
Fashion on Fifth: You’re either in or you’re out
This week’s Fashion on Fifth is an ode to icon Heidi Klum, because as she says hundreds of times over 16 seasons of hosting “Project Runway”: “In fashion, one day you’re in and the next day you’re out.” As the new year came and went, resolutions got repackaged by Gen Z to be “ins and outs” posted in the form of TikToks, Instagram stories, tweets, and some kept secret in personal Notes App lists. Personally, I didn’t want to state publicly that bras and boyfriends are so out! I guess it’s too late now.
