Fashion on 5th is The New School Free Press’ fashion column showcasing the student’s best and most unique looks of the week.

Nicky Du

Nicky Du, a first-year student majoring in design and technology at Parsons, showed off his New School gear as he headed to class. He paired his #NewSchoolSpirit sweatpants with a black Zara coat and a grey hoodie purchased from the Overwatch League, an electronic sports league from the videogame “Overwatch” that sells official merchandise. “It’s like the NBA of Wii Sports,” he said. Du also has Overwatch League keychains on his bright red Bree backpack.

Abby Gold

Abby Gold is a first-year student studying Culture and Media at Lang. She wears lime green Levis from a thrift store in LA called “Iguana.” “I love colors, so I look for colors a lot. Like now I’m wearing a lot of green,” said Gold. She paired her jeans with a rust-colored coat from Nordstrom Rack and a green check shirt. “I got this shirt from L-Train [Vintage], and I cut it, it used to be really long,” said Gold.

Opal Wortmann

Opal Wortmann, a first-year student studying Fine Arts at Parsons thrifted almost her entire outfit — everything excepts shoes and sweater — from stores in Massachusetts “This jacket was four dollars and these pants were actually free.” said Wortmann. She accessorizes her clothing with earrings purchased from Claire’s. “I like mixing patterns, and I try to look as weird as possible, but also classic,” said Wortmann. “My style is really like an amalgamation of all of my conflicting personality traits.”

Breckenridge Lanning

Sporting black from head to toe, Breckenridge Lanning is a strategic design and management student at Parsons. He’s wearing a black ASOS leather hat, a vintage leather and fur jacket with a $10 black turtleneck from Amazon. He completes his look with a Valentino belt bag and mules from Steve Madden. Lanning described his look as “last-minute chic.”

Laylah Dinkins

Laylah Dinkins is a first-year design and management student at Parsons. She claims most of her clothes aren’t hers. “Nothing I’m wearing is mine necessarily,” she said as she points to her pants and top, “[These are] my cousin’s, my cousin’s, my mom’s.” Dinkins is wearing a black headscarf with hair clips attached in the front, a sporty zipped-up top with sweatpants and Dr. Martens boots. Her black outfit is paired with an oversized red Marmot jacket that she got from a thrift store.

Katherine Tillemans

Katherine Tillemans is a Strategic Design and Management student at Parsons. When asked to describe her style, she described herself as feminine. “I love pastels, I love bright [colors], but also always have a black statement piece,” she said. Tillemans is wearing a cream BA&SH coat with a baby pink BCBG scarf. Her jeans are from Wishlist, a store in Connecticut, and her top is from Neiman Marcus. Tillemans’ bracelet is from Greece and most of her other accessories are from around New York.

Matilde Monti

Matilde Monti is a second-year BAFA student studying Communication Design and Culture and Media. She would describe her style as “playful but also pretty simple.” She’s wearing vintage Levi’s jeans with black Dr. Martens boots that she’s worn since high school. Her coat is reversible and used to be her mom’s, “She’s had it since she was like 18 or 19. So it’s probably [from] the 70s,” said Monti.
