Black Lives Matter Art Show

Tuesday Jan. 31 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, and given the current state of political affairs, artist Carla Cubit will be hosting the free opening reception of her new exhibit at Bushwick’s The Living Gallery. The show displays Cubit’s the movement’s artwork, posters, and photographs from Black Lives Matter protests throughout the NYC area, as well as artwork from the Museum of Impact. There will also be a performance by Welf Dorr of underground horns, Ras Moshe Burnett, Kenny Wollesen and open jam session and a speaker from the Museum of Impact, followed by an open discussion with the artist herself. Free posters will be available from The Stop Mass Incarceration Network. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Ann Carson, a distinguished poet-in-residence in the NYU Creative Writing Program and winner of the T.S. Elliott prize for poetry, will be hosting a free reading open to the public. No tickets or reservations necessary; seating is first-come first-served, so we suggest getting there by 6:30 p.m.

Brooklyn Forum To Address The Needs of TGNC NY’ers

Friday Feb. 3 from  6:00 until 9:00 p.m.

A strategy session with community leaders, elected officials and other professionals on the needs and potential solutions to the violence affecting the trans and gender non-conforming community in New York City. The discussion will focus on education, immigration, employment, policing, housing and healthcare. It will be led by trans and gender non-conforming leaders. Food and Metrocards will be provided.
