Chelsea Bomber Ahmad Khan Rahami Has Been Taken Into Custody

The man believed to be responsible for several bombs placed around in Manhattan and New Jersey was taken into custody on Monday after he was wounded in a gunfight with police, officials reported on Twitter.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, 27, was arrested following a gunfight with New Jersey’s Linden Police Department The showdown started around 10:30am in Linden after the police issued a cellphone alert to millions of residents in the area telling them to be on the lookout for the suspect who was described as “armed and dangerous.”

An exchange of gunfire took place between Rahami and officers. Two cops were injured in the shooting.

Rahami was identified by officials on surveillance video planting both the bomb that went off on 23rd Street and another device that did not detonate on 27th Street.

“The suspect is in custody,” Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, tweeted Monday afternoon. “Thank you to our first responders who have performed with extraordinary skill and courage over the last two days.”
