The University Student Senate is giving away free food during finals week this Spring.

Visit the Event Cafe in the University Center until May 13 for free sandwich wraps, fruit platters and more.

Senators Wanja Ochwada from the New School for Public Engagement, and Brooke Renov from Parsons, started this initiative.

The USS started the event as a student engagement initiative while helping students get the sustenance they need.

“It’s a way for the Senate to show appreciation for the other students, and for them to get to know us, while everyone has this need for food met,” Ochwada said.

She came up with the idea last semester when she got frustrated that the cafeteria closed at 8 p.m., but the library remained opened 24 hours.

“People would have to leave the building to get food after 8, and in the winter that was a huge pain to me personally,” Ochwada said.

The USS will be providing food throughout the week for students working through finals with rotating senators on shifts throughout the night to meet and greet students. On the Student Senate-Meal Share Facebook page, previously known as the USS Meal-Share, Senators will post photos of the food available that evening.
