A water main break under Fifth Avenue resulting in water getting shut off in seven New School buildings, including the Kerry Hall dorm, left a bunch of New School community members very unhappy Wednesday.

The New School Free Press followed up to see what some of those displeased people had to say after the incident.

Denzel Hassell, a Parsons student, had an unpleasant start to his morning. “All I remember is being woken up by the freakin’ announcement and I thought the building was going to blow up,” Hassell said.

He wasn’t the only Kerrey Hall resident that had his daily routine halted after running water stopped being supplied to the residence hall at around 9:30 a.m Wednesday morning.

Jasmine Xie, a freshman at Parsons, was lucky enough to have finished showering just after she heard the announcement regarding the water shut down.

Jeremy Gold, a sophomore at Lang, simply wanted to go about his daily hygienic needs. “I wasn’t about to use dry toothpaste, so I glance over to my left and I notice this plastic cup from last night with water I didn’t finish drinking” Gold laughed. “So I dipped my toothbrush in it.”

India Finley, a freshman at Parsons, also didn’t hear the announcement because she was still asleep. “I though the alarm was part of my dream,” she said.

Jensen Edmondson, also at Parsons, decided to go shower at her friend’s house on the Upper East Side. “I had no choice! I had a date,” Edmondson said. Fellow resident Gayeong Park went to use the water at her boyfriend’s NYU dorm.

Lucky for her and the rest of Kerrey Hall, as of 6 P.M on Wednesday, the water was back up and running.

This is the second water main break in less than three years to affect the school. In January 2014, the university encountered water damage to three of its properties after a main broke in front of the UC. After this incident, The New School was awarded $26.1 million in insurance money, a 2015 financial statement from The New School said.
