University Student Senators will throw a nearly $30,000 university-wide party this Fall after having approved the event and ending weeks of contention during their April 10 meeting.

After an internal misunderstanding that led students to believe voting on the event would take place at a March 14 meeting, students gathered to voice their concerns. At this more recent meeting, Co-Chair Nico Galvan and Mannes senator Jovan Bursac, presented the details of the party- a summation of two years of work- and the event passed.

The $27,900 party will take place at the Chelsea nightclub, Marquee, on 27th street and 10th avenue, following the Block Party. The venue can hold up to 700 people, according to senators. The mezzanine portion of the club will be roped off for students over 21 to drink. Students of drinking age will receive wristbands and three drink tickets.

Funding for the event will come from the USS surplus of funds, though tickets may be sold for $15 to assure that students who RSVP attend the party. The room rental comes at a cost of $20,000 and the remaining $7,900 will be used to pay bartenders, coat check, ticket vendors and other miscellaneous expenses.

The party will also have performances from student artists, who will be chosen by senators during a competition at the Dawn of Summer event in May. Senators hope to receive funding from the New School administration to pay the student performers.

A corporate partnership with Uber, which would give a free 20 dollar ride to those students who use a specific code until a 250,000 cap is reached, is also in the talks though up for review by the senate.

Galvan and Bursac hoped the party would promote community amongst students and make the USS a more visible entity.

The senators said that New School administration has expressed support for the party and the event will be advertised on orientation packets given out by the school to incoming freshmen.
